A INTOLERÂNCIA RELIGIOSA: SEUS IMPACTOS NAS RELIGIÕES DE MATRIZ AFRICANA NA PERIFERIA DO RIO DE JANEIRO

Abstract

Extremism against religions of African origin, as well as the persecution suffered by adherents, is still considered one of the faces of Brazilian religious racism. Just like racism, which despite having been made an imprescriptible and non-bailable crime in the 1988 Constitution, has stood the test of time and undermined the democratization process. Even though public policies have been implemented as a way of reducing intolerance towards African religions, prejudice against these religions has still increased considerably in recent years. The aim of this research is to study religious intolerance, especially in Rio de Janeiro, towards religions of African origin. The aim is to seek the right to and respect for religious freedom through preventive ac-tions in society, private initiative, schools and government entities. The aim is to create a hu-manized coexistence, focused on tolerance, values and inter-religious dialogue. With regard to the research methodology, a bibliographic analysis was carried out with the aim of gathering information and data that will serve as a basis for constructing a proposal to include the con-cept of the science of religion in family, educational and corporate environments from the vari-ous social spheres. We analyzed the historical context, some studies on the subject, as well as reports from the metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro. The topic of religious intolerance to-wards these religions and the violence used in some situations was analyzed. The study re-vealed that religious intolerance is, in a nutshell, a practice in which an individual has ideolo-gies and attitudes that prove a lack of respect for certain religions. The research also observed that human beings bring together cultural factors, opinions, feelings and ideas, which they pass on from generation to generation, influencing a way of thinking and living that is often not ac-cepted by everyone. The results obtained aim to find measures that promote and encourage respect and understanding of religious diversity. Therefore, we based ourselves especially on the following authors: ALMEIDA (2022), BORGES (2016), FORNET - BETANCOURT (2007), JENSEN (2001), SOUZA, M. (2008), ORO (1997), PRANDI (2004), ROCHA (2022), PRATES, (2019), among others, in order to prove our hypothesis. The methodological proce-dure used in this study was bibliographic research, composed of sources of articles, disserta-tions, theses, specialized websites, among others.
