ESTRUTURAS MOBILIZADORAS NO VOLUNTARIADO DA ZION CHURCH UMA ANÁLISE BOURDIEUSIANA DAS ÁREAS EXECUTIVAS

Abstract

This dissertation analyzes the motivations and perceptions of individuals who work voluntarily in the context of a religious institution. The object under study are people who work as volunteers at Zion Church, based in Sao Paulo. This choice is due to the fact that the researcher works professionally at the institution, and that the organization has a sui generis process for incorporating its members into its voluntary fronts, which will be presented during the study. As this is an institution that instrumentalizes volunteering in several areas, the study proposed here analyzes the members of the Executive Areas, responsible for the coordination of all sectors that are responsible for the functioning of the official services and events of the institution. Therefore, it is necessary to study the individual's dichotomy in relation to the institution, investigating the bases of the agent's understanding in view of the institutionally imposed normative structures. Pierre Bourdieu's studies and his theoretical conception of habitus, field and power are explained, instrumentalized and investigated through field research. This research also investigates the socio-demographic scenario, the volunteer's experience in their area of activity and their possible motivations, that is, their merits and limitations when confronted with the effective clash between the social actor and the social structure. The premise at the beginning of this dissertation is skeptical regarding the Bourdieusian lens being sufficient to face the complexity of this sociological relationship.
