Abstract

This research theme is the result of several concerns that arose during the professional career of this researcher and in the teaching exercise of Physical Education. Because of this professional experience, what drives this study is the investigation and the search for understanding the meaning and meaning of religiosity present in the language and behavior of athletes, especially in official competitions, in order to help them relate religiosity. and sport as a professional challenge. This qualitative work aims to understand the dynamic relationship between individuals, from a context, focusing here on the IFF of Bom Jesus do Itabapoana. This is a case study. Thus, we will interpret the data in the light of this reality, which were analyzed to understand the meanings of the acts present in the student athletes of this institution through the analysis of religious discourse. Based on the studies of Durkheim (1975, 2003, 2010), Weber (1991, 1999, 2001, 2004) and other authors. Starting from the religious field of the municipality, the investigation took place in the process of mapping the profiles of the subjects participating in the research, there is a parallel relation of the data presented in this profile in relation to the configuration of the religious field of the municipality. Through the semi-structured questionnaires, it was possible to verify that even these students having a religion, some use superstition to win a game or championship, even knowing the fragility that superstition has. In short, this use of a false religious practice, in some cases students do not have the reflexive-critical awareness that this practice adopted during or before a game is superstition. In short, this paper has come to understand that the motives that lead these student athletes to religiously manifest themselves during a soccer match say a lot about their belief in believing in something superior to them, a greater force and something divine. The manifestations of religiosity can influence the psychological processes of individuals, in believing in the possibility of winning they can strive more for this result. It was not possible to understand from the questionnaires applied whether the interviewees' religious discourse respects religious diversity and those who declare themselves without religion. Therefore, understanding this phenomenon enhances the work of Physical Education teachers if they start from the diversity of religions being worked for the good of all, in a united and positive way.
