DINÂMICAS INTERACIONAIS ENTRE SURDOS E INTÉRPRETES EM IGREJAS BATISTAS EM JUAZEIRO DO NORTE

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to analyze the determinants of the interaction between deaf and interpreters from Baptist Churches in Juazeiro do Norte, as well as to investigate the religious discourse in the action of the interpreter in environments outside the church; to observe how the interpreters use the religious discourse to justify the imponderable of the daily life of the deaf; to comprehend how the social interactions between the deaf and the interpreters are woven and to identify the tensions that permeate the social interactions between the deaf and the interpreters. For this, it was adopted a descriptive and exploratory study with a qualitative approach. The research was conducted in the city of Juazeiro do Norte, state of Ceará, specifically in Baptist Churches that has effective ministry with the deaf, the First Baptist Church of Juazeiro do Norte affiliated with the Brazilian Baptist Convention, First Regular Baptist Church and Zion Baptist Regular Church, affiliated with the Baptist Regular Convention. 10 deaf and 10 interpreters which exercise the volunteer activities in the church where they attend and that also work professionally as interpreters of the Brazilian Sign Language, participated of the research. The research’s gathering was done separately, through a semi-structured interview. For the deaf, the interview was conducted in sign language and for the interpreters, a questionnaire was applied to respond in writing. In this sense, the social relevance of the research involved reflecting whether these interactions extend beyond the physical space of religious institutions, contributing to the social participation and engagement of the deaf.
