Navegando por Assunto This dissertation deals with the insertion of Religious Education discipline (ER) in the municipality of Santarém, State of Pará, in the period 2008 to 2014.O problem raised in the survey was: The insertion of ER in the municipality of Santarém is in line with the principle of secularism? The aim of the study was to analyze the educational standards applied to the regulation of matters and measures undertaken by SEMED to make it effective in municipal education. The research is the Document type, particularly sustained in the legal bases that deal with religious teaching in basic education, especially in Fundamnetal Education. A qualitative approach was followed in the theoretical and methodological framework, based on secularism categories and the right to education. The survey revealed that in period de 2008- 2014 the municipality of Santarém has overcome the confessional interpretation of discipline, yet still have an interpretive tangle between the historical understanding of religions and "ethical" values of the phenomena, and Christianity as the basis dominant. Therefore, even if the religious education compulsory subject in primary education in public schools, it was realized that there is no clarity on the part of those responsible for curriculum course, didactic methodology to be followed due to lack of clarity in the public sphere about role of religion in human development.
